Can Somone Explain The Catholic Holiday Of Corpus Christi To Me?
I know I asked this question already, but got a bnunch of stupid answers. Can someone please explain at least the jist of it. Like how it originated, and why it's celebrated. My entire family is Catholic, but we don't celebrate this in the US, so I don't know much about it. I'm going to Poland this summer, and I'm gonna be at the time of it, and I'd like to do segment on it for the travel video I'm making. I know it's really big in Poland!

Its a solemnity which is the highest rank of celebration. And does get celebrated by the Church in the US , but its not a holy day of obligation and is held on the Sunday after Trinity. In Poland it is a Holy day of obligation (rule of thumb if it is a Thursday is a Holy day of obligation) and a national holiday. Pope Urban IV decreed the Feast of Corpus Christi. While the institution of the Eucharist is celebrated on Holy (Maundy) Thursday, it also celebrates other aspects. For this reason, the Feast of Corpus Christi was established to create a feast focused solely on the Holy Eucharist. St. Juliana is Intimately connected with the feast, as her visions and drive to have a feast day to commemorate this inspired Church leaders to introduce the feast.. The first time the feast was held was in 1247, it being instituted by Bishop Robert the previous year. Pope Urban wanted the feast introduced for all Catholics but died in 2 October, 1264, he did make it a degree but it was sort of put on the shelf as a feast for all Catholics.. Pope Clement took up the matter in 1311 and made again a decree that it should be observed by all Catholics. The beliefs of the Church are always reflected in her feats. We should encourage the devotions which accompany our belief in Christ̢۪s corporeal presence in the sacrament of the altar. The feast is basically to commemorate and celebrate the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Enjoy your trip =).
