About Where's the best place to travel away from midwest

Where's the best place to travel away from midwest?
I'm sick of Kansas City and need a vacation. I will either dry or fly.. Someplace warm is good, beach preferred and the kids want roller coasters is possible. We want to leave in December for a few days to a couple of weeks. Travel agent said don't go to Corpus Christi (nothing to do and dirty beaches), Orlando is expensive, San Antonio (nothing to do either), Miami is expensive and unsafe at night. So where can we go?

Honestly, there's no where in the U.S. that's going to be warm enough for swimming or beach-going in the winter. No where except key west. Key West rocks. Does not feel like America at all. Lots of hotels. One small airport (I recommend flying to Miami and then driving down. Takes about 4 hours, but it's a really pretty trip.) Key West has beautiful clear water, a nice coral reef just a short boat ride off shore, but no roller coasters. Not much to do really except chill. Or, go to Myrtle Beach, SC. They have beach (cold during the winter) and the amusement parks. You can also rent little scooters and get around to just about everything on them. Great place.
